Digital Link

The hard part was never the code. It’s everything above it.

Digital Link is the infrastructure for connected products. We give every item a permanent identity, carry the compliance data behind it, and power the digital product passport it feeds, all on the open GS1 standard. One code on the pack, working for years, for shoppers today and regulators tomorrow.

Digital Link, the infrastructure for connected products

Why we exist

We shipped the shortcut. Then we built what comes after it.

The team behind Digital Link launched the first dynamic QR code back in 2009, when linking a printed code to changeable content was still a new idea. That code is now a commodity: free, everywhere, and soon bundled into the GS1 membership. So we moved up the stack, to the part no one can hand out for free. A permanent product identity. The compliance data that sits behind it. The digital product passport it powers. We are not a QR generator. We are the infrastructure the code plugs into.

What we build

The four things every product will need

Connected Products

A living link between a physical product and the trusted data behind it, on a single code that never has to change.

Product Compliance

The regulatory layer, EU and beyond, mapped to your categories and markets, so you know what applies and where the gaps are.

Digital Product Passport

A GS1-native path to the DPP as each regime lands, from batteries to textiles, with no re-architecting of your packaging.

GS1 Digital Link

We build on the open GS1 standard and run a GS1-conformant resolver, so your product identity stays portable, never locked to us.

The entity

Digital Link is the company. GS1 Digital Link is the standard.

It is an easy mix-up, and it matters. GS1 Digital Link is the open, global standard for putting a web address inside a barcode. Digital Link, the company, builds the platform that puts that standard to work: a conformant resolver, the compliance layer, and the passport tooling on top. We build on GS1, we are conformant to GS1, and we are never an alternative to it. If you already have a GS1 code, we take it to the next level.

Origin

Built by the engineers who invented the dynamic QR code

Digital Link comes from the team that shipped the world’s first dynamic QR code in 2009. That origin is why we saw, before most, that the value was leaving the code and moving to the layer above it. We build in the open, on standards, because that is the only foundation a product identity can safely stand on for a decade.

Trusted by brands around the world

Brands that trust Digital Link: Amazon, Novartis, Coca-Cola, Johnson & Johnson, Philips, Pernod Ricard, Unilever, Walmart, Nestlé, Beko, Lidl, Müller, Woolworths, Janssen, P&G and Ferrero

How we operate

Built on standards that build trust

Trust starts with accountability. Our platform is built on the open GS1 standard and operates under globally recognized practices for security, quality, and environmental responsibility. That discipline is what keeps us ready for any regulation that requires product information to be shared digitally, and it is the foundation every connected product on our platform stands on.

FAQ

Questions people ask about Digital Link

What is Digital Link?

Digital Link is the infrastructure company for connected products. We give a product a permanent identity, carry the compliance data behind it, and power the digital product passport it feeds, all on the open GS1 standard.

Is Digital Link the same as GS1 Digital Link?

No. GS1 Digital Link is the open standard. Digital Link is the company that builds a platform on that standard, including a GS1-conformant resolver.

Does Digital Link compete with GS1?

Never. We build on GS1 and are conformant to it. If you already have a GS1 code, we take it further. We do not compete with the standard.

Who is behind Digital Link?

Digital Link comes from the team that created the world’s first dynamic QR code in 2009, the engineers who then built the compliance and passport layer on top of it.

What is a digital product passport?

A digital product passport is a structured, regulated record of a product’s data, reachable from the product itself. Digital Link provides a GS1-native path to it as each EU regime takes effect.

Is Digital Link a QR code generator?

No. The QR code is the easy part. We build the layer above it: the permanent identity, compliance, and passport data that the code links to.
